Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Travel is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a professional engineer. (Professional engineers licensed in another state, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.) Must have five (5) years' experience in transportation engineering, acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional eng! ineer. Graduate-level engineering education may be substituted! for engineering experience on a year per year basis. For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire. Must have Open Water Diver certification if performing underwater bridge inspections for the Bridge Division. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Works with Architects and Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to develop plans and specifications for safety rest area, Travel Information Center and other roadside building facility projects.

Serves as Project Manager for new and renovation projects; drives! to construction projects to observe contractors work to verify that th! e project is completed in compliance with all plans and specifications.

Coordinates with utility companies, attorneys and governmental representatives to acquire water, wastewater, electricity or other services.

Works with professional consultants including selection, their production of Plans, Specifications & Estimates and construction observation and certifies their fees and payments.

Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests. Uses scheduling software to determine if a change in work affects the critical path.

Writes and edits construction standards such as Master Spec. Prepares plans using AutoCAD and Microstation. Uses Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.

Manage building facility projects during construction including site inspection to assure that contractors work is in compliance with plans and specifications.

Develops, prepares and administers consult! ant contract work authorizations, Building Facility Contracts and related documents.

Manages building construction contracts and performs overall project construction administration and oversight.

Communicates with officials, communities and the public to help develop projects that are relevant to their location.

Coordinates with utility companies, attorneys and governmental representatives to acquire water, wastewater, electricity or other services.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Driver 's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal ! vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.
Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

External final applicants for any department position who could potentially be required to drive for the department must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment.

External final male applicants who are 18-25 years of age will be required to furnish proof of registration or exemption from registration with the Selective Service System.

Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment physical exam at the employer's expense is required.

If hired, employee must provide document(s) within three(3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office.
