The primary purpose of this position is to provide a wide range of general, administrative, and legal assistance services for the 802d Mission Support Group.

·

Perform various legal assignments which require research, analysis, and interpretation of policies, federal and state statutes, administrative decisions, case laws, and legal opinions.

·

As a legal assistance attorney, counsel clients on child support, child custody, minimum support requirements, citizenship and immigration, marriage, divorce, paternity, bankruptcy and financing, automobile sales and leases, consumer problems, powers of attorney, purchase, sale and leases of real property, personal injury suits, estate planning and probate.

·

Personally research and prepare opinions on administrative law questions.

·

Perform legal work in the area of Environmental Law.

Perform legal work involving Acquisitions and Contract Law.

Perform legal work in the area of Labor Law.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
There is no Office of Personnel Management qualification standard for this series.

The following qualifications are IAW AF Instruction 51-107, dtd 1 Apr 1996 and Department of Defense Directive 1442.2, certified current as of 12 Mar 2004.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school, and admission to and membership in good standing of the bar of any State, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, in good standing. Required to disclose any currently pending allegations or previous findings of ethics, judicial, or other professional misconduct by any state bar or attorney disciplinary committee.

Must have professional legal experience in excess of two years as is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position to be assumed.

(You MUST submit copies of official school transcripts and copy of certifications/memberships.)

Appointments will be made on the basis of merit and in accordance with veterans preference entitlements and applicable rules and regulations of the office of Personnel Management. Subject to the requirement above, when more than one applicant for a particular attorney position meets the minimum requirements for appointments, the applicant who is best qualified on the basis of academic standing; relevant experience and achievement in the legal field will be selected.

Other factors involving effectiveness to perform the functions of the position may also be considered.

The duties to be performed are the critical factor in determining entrance level.

The possession of a degree or high academic standing alone is not sufficient basis for appointment at a higher entrance level.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD) - AND - admission to and membership in good standing of the bar of any the 50 States, the District of Columbia or U.S Territory - AND - 2 years of professional legal experience (at least one of which is at or equivalent to the GS-11 level). Required to disclose any currently pending allegations or previous findings of ethics, judicial, or other professional misconduct by any state bar or attorney disciplinary committee. Must have professional legal experience in excess of two years as is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position to be assumed. The minimum qualification requirements must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration.

BASIS OF RATING:
No written examination is required. Applicants will be rated on the content of the application, considering education, experiences and other professional qualifications. Final selection is a two part process comprised of (1) rating by the local civilian attorney committee (including results of the oral interview of some of the applicants) and (2) final review of qualifications of the best qualified applicants by the qualifying authority including, at its discretion, another oral interview. Final selection is subject to approval of the qualifying authority, which may revise the rank order of preference for selection.

Applicants are also requested to address the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) on a separate sheet of paper and submit with their application package (attach to your application package).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.

Professional knowledge of law, legal principles, and federal regulations relevant to the duties of the position and experience to provide timely and pertinent advice.

2.

General knowledge of environmental law, labor law, and contracts and contractual actions.

3.

General knowledge of acquisition law.

4.

Skill and ability to recognize, analyze, and discern key legal points of factual situation.

5.

Ability to plan and conduct thorough legal research with available resources and to quickly and accurately identify key facts, assets and their significance, and correctly apply pertinent legal standards and principles.

6.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in both formal and informal settings and provide well-reasoned analyses, clear conclusions on complex issues with little advance preparation, and clearly convey legal issues, documents, or decisions to personnel not in the legal profession.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE

:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

:

The work may require travel away from the normal duty station, at times on short notice.

2.

Must be an active Bar member and be in good standing.

Must provide Official Certificate from the Bar of Federal court or the highest court of a State or Territory of the United States that the applicant is a member of the Bar in good standing and that his/her fitness to practice law or the applicantÂ's conduct as an attorney has never been challenged.

If either fitness or conduct has been challenged, an official statement is required concerning the facts and circumstances, together with any explanation, which the applicant may care to submit).

Applicants must be graduates of a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association.

3.

Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance as a condition of continued employment in this position.

4.

This is a drug testing designated position in accordance with AFI 44-107.

Incumbent will be subject to random testing for drug use.
