Master's Degree from an accredited university in Education/Administration; valid Texas teacher certification, Mid-Management Certificate
Three years of directly rela! ted experience
Experience planning and facilitating academic competitions
Knowledge of academic competition rules and regulations related to each event at the elementary, middle and high school levels
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of University Interscholastic League compliance guidelines
Knowledge of academic competition stipend requirements
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with student, staff and parents
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish fact, and draw conclusions
Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions
Possess good communication skills
Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from district personnel, parents and the general public
BASIC FUNCTIONS
Create the vision and mission of the Student Activities Department, including strategic planning of al! l academic competitions
Plan, direct and facilitate a! ll activities of the Student Activities Department
Organize academic competitions
Secure qualified contest directors and judges
Administer the distribution of departmental material and services and manage departmental resources
Facilitate travel arrangements to teams advancing to region, state and national competitions
Maintain accurate records of coach agreements, training/meeting attendance, and competition participation for stipend verification purposes
Promote academic competition involvement at campuses
Confer regularly with academic competition coaches to identify areas of need and visit campuses as necessary
Keep abreast of best practices and developing trends in other school districts, locally and nationwide and share information to appropriate personnel
Monitor compliance with academic competition rules and regulations
Oversee the selection and purchase of departmental equipme! nt, materials, and supplies
Compile and maintain all required physical and computerized reports, records and other documents
Supervise the activities of the department in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws; responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, and appraising performance
Complete other tasks and duties as determined by the assigned supervisor
Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
