Responsibilities and
Opportunity ! Offered: The United States AttorneyÂ's Office for the
Southern District of Texas seeks one (1) experienced attorney in the Civil
Division of its Brownsville office. The
incumbent will be primarily responsible for representing the United States on a
wide range of issues relating to the Border Fence project. This
is a TERM position not to exceed one (1) year.
The one year term begins effective the date of the applicantÂ's entry on
duty. The incumbent will be required
to sign a statement regarding the conditions of the TERM appointment.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Required
qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree from an
accredited law school, and must be duly licensed and authorized to practice as
an attorney under the laws of any state or territory of the United States or of
the District of Columbia. Active bar
membership (any jurisdict! ion) is required.
Additionally, applicants must have at least three! (3) years of full-time
experience as a licensed attorney.

Preferred Qualifications: Hiring preferences include at least five (5) years of civil litigation
experience, preferably including litigation of land condemnation cases, oil and
gas disputes, and real estate matters.
Other desirable experience includes the handling of some or all of the
following types of cases: employment
litigation, torts, immigration, and bankruptcy.
Ideal candidates will have first-chair federal trial experience, strong
academics, outstanding organizational skills, superior legal writing and
research ability, exceptional computer literacy skills to include experience
with automated research on the Internet, electronic court filing, electronic e-mail
and word processing systems, demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment
and courtroom skills, and a demonstrated commitment to
professionalism, ethics, civility, and public! service. Spanish-language skills
are useful, but not required.

United States citizenship is required.

Type of Position: This is a TERM position not to exceed
9/30/14 or one (1) year from entry on duty (which ever is ! later) . The
TERM appointment may be extended for an additional per! iod of time without
further competition; however, any extension is not guaranteed and is also
dependent upon budgetary restraints. The
incumbent will be required to sign a statement regarding the conditions of the
TERM appointment prior to entry on duty.

The incumbent may be considered for placement in a
permanent Assistant United States Attorney position without further competition
during the term of the appointment contingent upon the Attorney GeneralÂ's
hiring freeze; however, placement in a permanent position is not
guaranteed.

A selectee who is currently employed with the U.S. AttorneyÂ's Office
will be considered and the employment status will be reviewed based on his/her
current appointment.

Salary
Information : Pay for Assistant United States Attorneys is
administratively determined, based in part on the number of years of
professional attorney experience. The
2013 range of bas! ic pay is $44,581 to $131,534 per annum, plus locality pay.

Security Requirements :
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment
adjudication. This includes fingerprint
and credit checks, and drug testing. In
addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a
background investigation.

Department
Policies: Once appointed, Assistant United States
Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed
or within 25 miles thereof. See 28
U.S.C. § 545 for district-specific information.

All initial attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made
on a time-limited (temporary) basis.
Temporary appointments may, or may not, be made permanent without
further competition.
