The responsibilities of the Customs Compliance Team Lead is to oversee staff handling FTAs, classifications, duty drawback and FTZs.
This position will also provide regulatory interpretation and guidance in the following areas: Trade Agreements, Product Classification, Import Compliance Training, Import Documentation, Import Assists, Import Customs Clearance, Foreign Sourcing, Duty Drawback, and Maintaining Import Records.
The Team Lead may also participate in: Audits or verifications of importing Business Units compliance with Corporate Customs Policy, Laws & Regulations. Ma! nagement of classification determination of products. Implemen! tation of corrective actions. Interaction with Customs Brokers and/or freight forwarders to ensure that import documentation and import activities are properly executed. Improvement of company policies and procedures. Leads or facilitates projects as needed. Training of employees on import compliance. Establishment and effective utilization of metrics to drive improvement. Report metrics as needed to management. Key accountabilities Lead compliance staff in ensuring import compliance by:

  • Managing import entry reviews for classification, value, origin and FTA application.
  • Overseeing BP America’s duty drawback program.
  • Managing the FTZ operations to optimize duty while maintaining compliance.
  • Reducing the regional Customs duty/tax exposure through effective and compliant application of Free Trade Agreements.
  • Minimizing risk of non-compliance with Customs reporting by ensuring that proper tariff numbers are reported to Customs! authorities.
  • Providing responses to Customs inquiries
  • Advising and training staff and business units on compliance issues where needs are identified. Essential Education •Undergraduate Degree from an accredited university Essential experience and job requirements • Valid Customs Broker License
  • Minimum 2 years management/team lead/ supervisory experience
  • 6+ years of experience ensuring import of products internationally in accordance with US and International regulations
  • Minimum 4+ years technical expertise in import laws & regulations, including classifications, valuation, country of origin, and duty preference programs
  • Must exercise excellent judgment and make decisions based on clear understanding of the regulations
  • Knowledge of customs forms and power of attorney
  • Understand and be able to interpret commercial invoices, airway bills and manifests
  • Proficient computer skills in utilizing M! icrosoft programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Track record of! ability to apply professional, effective communication skills with internal departments, senior management, external customers and government agencies to accomplish objectives Eligibility Requirements Legally authorized to work in the United States Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location) • Ability to exhibit social intelligence and work collaboratively
  • Willingness to develop and share knowledge through training and seminar events
  • Willingness and ability to travel both foreign and domestically (not to exceed 10%)
  • Must be able to project authority necessary to achieve compliance
  • Strong communication, analytic and organizational skills, strong attention to details, ability to work effectively under pressure, ability to solve logistical problems as necessary
