Temporary Summer Construction Crew Leader


 

Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a Temporary Summer Construction Crew Leader at Kalapuya High School.

Overview Responsibilities:

The Crew Supervisor plans, organizes, and leads construction and construction-related work projects, including smaller ‘introduction to construction’ projects as well as assisting on a larger shop construction project. She/he must be able to work with youth of varied backgrounds, cultures, abilities and gender, creating an environment conducive to the development of work skills and personal growth. Responsible for weekly and final project reports, student timesheets, and final crew member evaluations


Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree is preferred or a 2 year associates degree. A science background is preferred. Must have vocational/technical training in at least one of the following: landscape architecture, forestry, resource management, conservation, wetland management, environmental studies, park management, carpentry construction, or related fields.
  • Experience: Supervisory experience working with diverse and at-risk youth, preferably an on-the-job training setting of general construction, trail building, conservation, or youth services corps work program. One year small group/classroom instruction experience. Alternative education setting helpful.
  • Driver’s License: Valid in Oregon, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency’s auto insurance.
  • Experience driving a 15-passenger van and ability to obtain Oregon Department of Education School Activity Drivers Certificate.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work assignments under adverse weather conditions in both indoor and outdoor settings; ability to lift up to 50lbs. and perform twisting and swinging motions
  • Current first-aid certification or ability and willingness to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices. Ability to use and teach others the safe and proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in advising, conferring and cooperating with land management agencies, county, city and other municipalities.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.
  • Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources.
  • Ability to work in a stressful, unstructured environment, and maintain a positive mental attitude.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Professional appearance appropriate to position.


Specific Duties:

  • Orients, supervises, trains, and evaluates a crew of young adults, ages 15-18.
  • Instructs youth in educational and vocational activities associated with work projects and provides daily feedback on performance.
  • Develops and maintains a strong sense of team/teamwork for the crew.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintains records on attendance, crew activities and completes project reports.
  • Maintains program van including arranging for or completing regular maintenance work and cleaning.
  • Maintains tool inventory.
  • Employee will report to multiple supervisors.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.


Bilingual candidates and candidates experienced in working with bilingual students and families will receive preferential consideration.


New staff must be fully vaccinated to meet the COVID-19 vaccine mandate or have an approved exception.


Salary: $25/hour

Tentative Dates: June 19th – August 18th
