Responsibilities
:
Through those Tax staff that report directly to him/her and those external to Tax that he/she influences, manage the effective and efficient operation of the State Indirect Tax Audit team such to include:
Providing advice to the Business and Functions of indirect tax audit matters.
Calculating and reporting to US Controllers tax exposures and overseeing the recording and reporting on indirect tax audit issues.
Manage the State Indirect Tax Audit personnel directly reporting to him/her to coordinate their efforts, ensure consistency and efficiency and ensure compliance with all Shell people processes including the Tax Performance Framework.
Supervisor or lead the handling of ! tax audits through the appeals level up to litigation maintaining appropriate controls.
Ensure provisions are accurately accounted for by working with the Direct and Indirect Advisory Teams, Reporting and Filing Team.
Maintain contact and relationships with tax and fiscal authorities, managing tax and external audits, negotiation and settling tax disputes within certain delegated limits and under relative supervision.
Actively take part in period end, audit processes and authority reviews.
Contribute to External Representation of Shell in the USA with governmental authorities and within industry and professional groups taking a lead on key issue affecting Shell.
Provide support to the following functional areas:
Tax Lead State Tax Litigation
Tax Lead Global Indirect Tax Advice
Tax Lead Indirect Tax Compliance DS Controllers
Requirements
:
Must have legal authorization to wor! k in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer! .
Bachelor degree required.
Must be a Licensed Attorney or Certified Public Accountant.
Minimum ten (10) years experience in tax law, process law and practice across multiple jurisdictions required.
Minimum three (3) years experience directly handling post audit appeals of audit assessments at the administrative appeals level.
Indirect tax experience should include motor fuel excise taxes, environmental taxes, and sales/use and direct pay taxes.
Broad experience in business taxation with a multinational or a professional law firm with both upstream and downstream experience preferred.
Proven ability to interact and engage authorities and public entities.
Ability to work with uncertainties and delivering results under significant time pressure while retaining clear focus.
Effective communicator of complex tax issues both written and verbal.
Effective client/project management and task p! rioritization skills.
Strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing others.
