Job Summary:
Asset & reliability engineering support for NGL operating facilities including but not limited to liquid pipelines, pumping units and metering stations. Responsibilities include NGL hydraulic simulation modeling, equipment specification, cost estimating, P&ID review and process safety. Day to day e! ngineering support for operations including troubleshooting eq! uipment and processes. Is the technical representative for the NGL organization to design piping, vessels, pumps and general pipeline and treating facilities. The engineer is also responsible for development of, planning of, and management of small capital projects including developing scopes and estimating project costs. The individual in this position will be expected to manage the progress and costs associated with small capital and operational support projects.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a technical resource for troubleshooting operations issues and problem solving, working with all levels of personnel: operator, mechanic, supervisor, manager, ROW land man/survey, safety, attorney, environmental, etc.
- Supports the downstream business in project development , including, but not limited to generating ideas for projects to optimize the pipelines, conditioning, treating, pumping and metering operations.
- Supports the reliabi! lity of the downstream business through analysis of run times and the integrity of the pipelines.
- Evaluates feasibility of ideas, projects, etc. and generates scopes of work.
- Performs economic evaluation and cost estimating.
- Conducts studies involving station and field optimization, feasibility and possible expansion of the system.
- Responsible for equipment design, hydraulic optimization, capital project support, interfacing with NGL personnel and supporting business development. Responsible for design specifications including performing rotating equipment sizing analyses for pumps as well as calculating fluid flow.
- Coordinates implementation of small (< $250M) projects and ensures successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints with strong focus on safety and environmental considerations.
- Prepares appropriate documentation (such as AFE’s) for assigned projects. !
- May be involved in facilitating Process Hazard Analyses, participa! ting in incident investigations and may be a member of the Process Safety team.
- Uses technical software ( e.g. HYSYS and ProMax) to simulate separation, treating and dehydration processes; may use AutoCAD or other programs to develop piping designs and process flow diagrams and P&ID’s ( or directs others in performing this work and/or verifies accuracy of that work). May be required to use WINFLOW software for system pipeline modeling and hydraulic analysis.
- Interfaces with NGL personnel providing input / ideas on projects related to NGL acquisition opportunities, processing alternatives, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
Incumbents should have very proficient PC/software skills, project management skills, the ability to read and understand process flow diagrams, plot plans and! P&IDs, knowledge of pumping and separation, fluid flow, piping design, distributed control systems (DCS), SCADA design and process control basics. Should be able to use or learn modeling software such as HYSYS, ProMax and various hydraulic software. Should have strong understanding of business premises of existing assets as well as proposed acquisitions. Must possess excellent analytical skills and have strong team and customer focus orientation. Must have ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must be able to process complex information and calculate various mathematical formulas. Must be an extremely proficient communicator in verbal, written and presentation environments.
B.S. degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or another engineering discipline with relevant experience) with a minimum of 5 years of oil & gas industry experience.
Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license and be able to move from location to location, pr! epare written communications, present information to other employees, e! nter data to various programs and calculate various mathematical formulas. Job will require over 20-25% travel, by both air and automobile, due to the pipeline locations.
Desired Qualifications:
5 to 10 years of experience in the regulated pipelines industry. Competent in process modeling/simulation using HYSYS, ProMax, WINFLOW and other industry standard software. Competent in interpretation of alignment sheets, plot plans and other engineering drawings/standards. Competent in formal communication and presentations.
