Responsible for all criminal, civil, & administrative cases filed within the court. Follows thro! ugh until disposition of each case.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assumes duties of other clerks, including the Court Manager, as needed in their absence.
2. Responsible for the issuance of citations, setting letters, correspond to written answers to the court, show cause orders, motions to compel and contempt motions, writs of execution, writs of reentry, writs of possession, writs of attachment, writs of garnishment, writs of sequestration, turnover orders, towing cases, mental health warrants, chemical dependency warrants, peace bonds, property hearings, arraignments, and hot checks. Issues warrants, driver licenses hearings, abstracts of judgments, compacts to proper out-of-state authorities, and surety, cash, personal and appeal bonds.
3. Performs complex and varied clerical duties such as classifying, consolidating, summarizing, sorting, filing, distributing documents and information, and preparing and setting court dockets. 4. Routinely answers customer questions and provides case inf! ormation to attorneys and the public. Applies and explains complex information as it relates to filing requirements and compliance of court orders and/or policies.
5. Prepares reports, correspondence and legal documents drawing from a variety of sources within and outside of the department.
6. Conducts research and provides analysis of various reports for collection responsibilities and/or legal documents as required by department supervisor.
7. Receives credit card payments, guarantees authorization, and provides traceable records in an orderly and efficient manner to comply with internal control audit.
8. Maintains complete working knowledge of the MOBIUS System to prepare cumulative reporting of historical court records and disseminate as required.
9. Interviews, verifies and qualifies applicants for newly created Justice of the Peace Collection office. Require detailed explanations and information regarding payment responsibilities and consequences. !
10. Reviews and verifies all bonds to confirm compliance with all criminal and civil statutes.
11. Creates and develops standardized legal forms in word processing programs and the mainframe. Works closely with IT and the District Attorney to maintain consistency in all courts.
12. Serves as liaison between Court Manager and clerical staff, relaying County policy to co-workers including, but not limited to, workplace violence, CPR, & insurance.
13. Assists supervisor in prioritizing, scheduling, delegating, and monitoring departmental workloads. Maintains and updates standard operating procedure manuals for each position.
14. Coordinates and maintains accurate records of community service as ordered by the court. Reports to Austin DPS all DL suspensions, alcohol convictions by minors and final dispositions of cases.
15. Works with other departments such as school districts, Sheriff’s Office, MHMR, and DPS to give and receive information needed to p! erform the essential duties of this position to achieve department goal! s.
16. Utilizes computer, calculator, typewriter, and other standard office equipment to record, store, and retrieve information including court dispositions.
17. Assists the Judge in the courtroom and enters data as trials are being conducted to facilitate efficiency of docket management.
18. Manages and retains records in compliance with County procedures and state law. Organizes files for archival storage. Maintains records for retrieval, delivery and re-file cycle of all closed files.
19. Receives large sums of monies. Issues receipts and maintains accurate financial records.
20. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or Business School Certificate.
  • Four (4) years legal experience in the court system or law office or four (4) years office experience.
  • Years of education at an accredited college, university, or law school can substitute for required experie! nce on a year-to-year basis.
  • Must have or obtain State Certification for Justice Court Personnel and Notary Public.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced technological experience.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced and stressful environment.
  • Ability to perform complex clerical duties related to trial docket efficiency.
  • Must be able to type 40 words per minute. *

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal back! ground check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the p! ast seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and reach. Must deal with difficult and sometimes volatile customers.
