The Chief Compliance and Risk Management Officer (CCRMO) is responsible for leaders! hip and strategic direction of the UNT Health Science Center (UNTHSC) Compliance Program. The CCRMO leads an institution-wide compliance program that provides oversight for the management, accountability, and operational integrity of all departmental operations. The CCRMO reports directly to the UNTHSC President and will work closely with the Division Compliance Officers that make up the UNTHSC Compliance Council.
The incumbent will advise senior leadership of potential compliance risk areas and recommend appropriate action plans. He/she will provide policy interpretation and will ensure the efficacy of compliance policies and procedures and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Functional Leadership
- Monitor, develop, assess, and manage policies and procedures to help ensure UNTHSC's compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, such as Medicare and Medicaid, Affirmative Action, American! with Disabilities Act, federal grants and contracts, etc.
- Develop the annual Compliance Work Plan to identify the UNTHSC's highest risks using an enterprise risk management approach to be monitored by the CCRMO and the senior leadership team
- Develop, plan, and oversee all employee and specialized institutional compliance training and awareness programs across campus
- Provide guidance to senior leadership team, faculty, and staff on institutional compliance matters
- Analyze, research, and respond to questions regarding the compliance program and applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Chair the UNTHSC Compliance Council
- Oversee compliance hot line and other reporting methods to respond to institutional compliance complaints or concerns by collaborating with Division Compliance Officers and other departments to direct issues for investigation and resolution; activates Fraud Response Team as required
- Collaborate with the Compliance ! Council to develop institutional guidelines and procedures for compliance monitoring and reporting in accordance with state and federal requirements
- Monitor external audit review processes, maintains awareness of compliance issues, and partners with the UNT System Office of General Counsel and senior leadership team to respond to administrative inquiries
- Ensure current knowledge and on-going development of laws, regulations, changes and trends, which may affect the UNTHSC's medical billing process and other institutional procedures through personal research, seminars, peer contact, benchmarking compliance monitoring practices, implementation strategies with other institutions, etc.
- Partner with Division Compliance Officers to foster and enhance compliance with all professional standards, billing and administrative requirements
- Collaborate with UNT System Compliance Officer, UNT campus compliance officers, and UNT System Internal Audit to ! facilitate uniform and responsive reporting to the UNT System Board of ! Regents
The successful candidate must possess the following required qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and a minimum of seven years of mid-to-senior-level experience in compliance, legal and/or audit leadership roles, with strengths in the following:
- Proven analytical abilities to practically apply regulatory requirements to existing or proposed policies and procedures for large organizations
- Proven ability to develop and build solid relationships with internal and external partners
- Solid project management and process improvement skill sets
- Exceptional verbal, platform and written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Juris Doctor (JD), especially experience as a healthcare attorney
- Relevant certifications and training such as Ce! rtified Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), etc.
- Knowledge of physician coding regulations
- Experience with Enterprise Risk Management practices
- Functional knowledge of leadership and operations of an academic health science center, as well as an understanding of issues related to research, academic affairs, clinical practice, and fundraising
