Description: University of Houston is currently seeking to employ Technical Commercialization Associate Director right now, this position will be assigned in Texas. Manages and implements interdisciplinary research initiatives, technology transfer, and intellectual property activities. Assists the Associate VC/VP for Technology Transfer and the Director of Office of Intellectual Property Management with management of intellectual property assets created within the University of Houston System.

Collaborates with university researchers regarding inventions and the commercialization process; assessing the technical and commercial potential of disclosed inventions.

Develops and implements strategies to successfully market and license inventions

Identifies potential industrial partners capable and interested in commercializing technologies through market research and network of contacts.

Maintains productive relationships with the community at large, public and private sector business development resources in the community, and maintains a network of resources.

Drafts, negotiates and executes a variety of agreements; prepares term sheets for license negotiations; and may prepare and file provisional patent applications.

Provides educational service programs to the campus community related to intellectual property awareness.

Coordinates with outside counsel in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications, as well as manages the patent application process.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree and seven (7) years of directly job related experience.

Requires 2-3 years of experience in patent prosecution and a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.

Additional Posting Information

Candidates holding a JD as well as an undergraduate degree or higher in a technical field (or equivalent work experience) will be given highest consideration.

Candidates who have served three years or more as a practicing patent agent, but do not possess a JD, will also be considered.
