Job Summary:
Provides pastoral care and spiritual comfort including crisis intervention, short term counseling,! sacramental services, listening ministry, grief counseling and ethical decision making assistance to patients, family members and Scott & White employees.
USING AGE SPECIFIC GUIDELINES, PROVIDES PASTORAL CARE TO PATIENTS, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND STAFF, AS APPROPRIATE, DURING THE DELIVERY OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES.

• Exhibits the highest level of pastoral professionalism in the areas of listening ministry, grief work and ethical decision making.
• Actively encourages and supports patients, families, and staff in identifying and using their own unique personal and spiritual resources.
• Consults with physicians, nurses, social workers, etc. and participates with interdisciplinary teams regarding patient care.
• Objectively assists patients, family members, physicians and other hospital/clinic staff with A Directive to Physicians ("Living Will") and Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care Directive issues.
• Accurately records appropriat! e pastoral care entries into patient medical records.
PROMPTLY IDENTIFIES THE MOST EFFECTIVE MEANS OF DELIVERING PASTORAL CARE BASED UPON THE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES OF EACH EMERGENCY.

• Provides sacramental or special services as requested by patients, their families and staff.
• Provides pastoral care to families in crisis or whenever a death has occurred.
ASSISTS CLERGY OF ALL FAITHS IN GIVING OPTIMAL PASTORAL CARE TO PATIENTS, FAMILIES AND STAFF OF THEIR OWN MEMBERSHIP OR DENOMINATION.

• Prepares and delivers worship services, when scheduled, that meet the spiritual needs of a diverse group of patients, families, and staff within the Scott & White community.
PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

• Ordination and/or ecclesiastical endorsement for chaplaincy required. Successful completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required. A! dditional units of CPE preferred.
• Three years parish pastoral experience or equivalency required. Three years of clinical experience working as a pastoral care provider in a healthcare setting preferred.
