Job Description:
The successful candidate will play a very important and critical role in Ericsson's global patent licensing program. The Patent Assertion Lawyer will also work closely with senior members of Ericsson’s global IPR & Licensing organization. In addition, this person will actively support Ericsson's out-licensing activities by (1) helping to identify potential licensees, (2) providing detailed technical anal! ysis of Ericsson’s industry-leading portfolio of over 33,000 patents, as well as the mapping of those patents against the products and services being provided by such potential licensees, (3) participating in licensing negotiations and taking the lead in relevant technical discussions, and (4) supporting any litigation that may become necessary to enforce Ericsson’s IP rights.
This position will be responsible for:
Working with a group of IP Professionals (attorneys, patent agents and/or patent-professionals) in Ericsson's global IPR & Licensing organization;
Investigating licensing prospects in cooperation with other members of Ericsson's IPR & Licensing Organization;
Supporting all business, legal, and technical activities in out-licensing of Ericsson's patent portfolio;
Playing a major role in licensing negotiations with potential licensees by conducting necessary technical discussions to effectively communicate the valu! e and strength of Ericsson's patent portfolio;
Assessing and e! valuating third party patents and portfolios;
Supporting litigation activities as necessary to assert and/or defend against claims of patent infringement;
Working in an international environment with opportunity to exchange views and experiences with colleagues in other countries;
Developing a network of technical and business contacts within Ericsson;
Contributing to continuous improvement of working processes to further enhance Ericsson’s patent portfolio strength; and

Requirements:
Must have at least five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney in the areas of patent litigation, patent enforcement or patent licensing.
Experience from leading teams is an additional attribute which will be considered.
Must be admitted to practice in at least one of the states in! the US.
Active and registered member of the USPTO with electrical engineering, computer science, or similar disciplines.
Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Strong presentation and negotiation skills required. Must have experience and confidence to independently assert patent coverage and enforcement positions to potential licensees.
Prior patent assertion experience is required. Such assertion activities include drafting and asserting claim charts as part of out-licensing activities, evaluating and defending claim charts as part of patent infringement defense, conducting technical discussions in portfolio-based out-licensing activities, and/or conducting Markman hearings, etc.
Must be able to work independently and also handle and manage multiple tasks and activities as a team member.
Top academic credentials from an ABA accredited law school and undergraduate degree with Electrical Engineering, Comp! uter Science, or similar discipline required.
Frequent travel,! both domestic and international, required.
Proficient in the Chinese language (Mandarin), both speaking and writing is strongly preferred.
