DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate will work closely with the lead IP attorney in building and protecting the company's intellectual property portfolio. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with engineers in invention mining sessions, patent scrubs, and patent education sessions;
- Actively participating in invention disclosure review process to help ensure that best inventions are identified and patented;
- Managing patent applications throughout the patent lifecycle by working directly with inventor community, working with outside counsel to draft and prosecute high quality patent applications for strategically important inventions;
- Analyzing pending patent applications to determine their value to the company and to formulate a global filing strategy;
- Participating from time to time as a member of a cross functional team to provide support in licensing, litigation, or other matters;
- Performing research and analysis, and providing guidance on a variety of patent and IP-related issues;
- Interacting with outside counsel on a regular basis;
- Drafting, negotiating, interpreting and advising clients on IP related agreements, such as non-disclosure agreements and license agreements, development agreements, and IP provisions in commercial agreements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a science discipline (masters degree a plus);
- Juris Doctor, current law license (Texas preferred, but not mandatory);
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office preferred;
- Strong academic background;
- 4-8 years of relevant work expe rience as a practicing lawyer (in-house, law firm or government);
- Candidate should possess strong negotiation skills and ability to build consensus and communicate compelling legal/business justification for position;
- Knowledge of privacy and data security a plus;
- Must possess excellent legal research, verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with extremely short turnaround deadlines;
- Knowledge of Lexis/Nexis research system and other web-based legal research tools.
