The Insurance Defense Attorney Manager will supervise attorneys and/or staff in the Insurance Defense litigation group while also handling an inventory of cases consistent with the level of management responsibilities. In addition, this position:
Handles all aspects of the assigned cases, which includes analysis of medical records and other documents, motion practice, pleadings, depositions, including expert depositions, etc.
Counsels and advises clients
Makes court appearances
Conducts discovery and investigation
Prepares and tries cases with moderate to severe exposure and complexity
Develops b! usiness partnership with claims customers
Works towards ga! ining an understanding of the insurance business, and particularly the Progressive business model.
Directs support staff in the completion of tasks.
Provides leadership and management to staff
Hires and trains staff
Sets performance standards and measures for staff
Provides career development to staff
Is accountable for overall productivity and quality of the team
REQUIREMENTS:
- Juris Doctorate
- Member of the Texas Bar
- Significant legal experience (10 yrs)
- Management experience preferred
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of medical and other technical information
- Thorough understanding and excellent working knowledge of applicable laws and rules such as evidence, civil procedure, trial practice, and tort
- Ability to execute organizational strategy
- Recognizes and understands the legal issues in personal injury and insurance coverage litigation
- ! Demonstrated leadership qualities
- Excellent client/claims customer skills
- Ability to work independently
- Maintains a diary on all files for follow up
- Computer proficiency
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Effective team player
- Understanding of all applicable ethical duties
- Attention to detail
- Ability to learn new or updated computer software and programs
- Ability to learn and follow existing and new processes and procedures
