Further informations about this career opportunity please give attention to these descriptions. Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking an experienced environmental attorney. This position will be located at our refinery located in Texas City, TX. The successful cand! idate will have excellent leadership skills and be responsible for providing counseling and legal support on environmental matters including compliance assistance, interpretative guidance, and managing enforcement cases. Areas of practice will primarily include Air, Waste, and Water, whereby the successful candidate will have a strong Air background. The position will also entail contracts, negotiation, and legal research, advising clients and providing preventive law counseling. The position entails heavy interaction with our refining organization, agencies and outside counsel. NOTE: Must be a member of the Texas or other State Bar.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides professional legal advice, counsel, and guidance, as a practicing attorney at law, to assure that the Company, its assets and its activities are legally safeguarded, are in conformity with all the applicable laws and regulations and will not unduly expose the Company to litigation, penalties or ! claims.
2. Advises refining management of the legal aspect! s of administrative and operational planning of the Company's activities and communicates regularly with the Corporate Law office located in Findlay OH.
3. Plans and develops solutions to existing or potential legal problems involving the Company, and advises management concerning its legal rights and obligations.
4. Advises the management of the Company as to the anticipated legal and other consequences of instituting, prosecuting and defending lawsuits, including arbitrations and administrative agency proceedings. Prepares and tries or supervises the preparation and trial of such lawsuits and proceedings which are instituted or defended by the Company.
5. Renders legal advice and opinions regarding title to property in which the Company has or intends to acquire an interest, contractual arrangements, local, state, federal and foreign laws and regulations, legislative matters, licenses, permits, publications and speeches of interest to or concerning the Company! .
6. Develops form contracts and other legal documents, and approves the form of all significant contractual environmental arrangements entered into by the Company.
7. Develops and implements programs, conducts presentations, publishes information and participates in other activities to educate Company officers and employees as to the Company's Code of Business Conduct, Company policies and procedures and legal compliance requirements.
8. Participates in continuing legal education programs and other activities as necessary to keep informed of developments in the law, new and proposed statutes and regulations, economic and social issues and other matters of interest to the Company and the energy industry.
Qualifications:
Degree: J.D. required
Major Discipline: Law
Years Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years
NOTE: Must be a member of the Texas or other State Bar.
